Julia Meehan, a National Certified Counselor, received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling as well as her Bachelors in sociology at The College of New Jersey. She has experience working in various levels of treatment including inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient centers, such as Penn Medicine Princeton House as a Primary Therapist and at Hunterdon Healthcare Center Detox. Julia has worked with clients of all ages from children/adolescents to seniors. She utilizes concepts and skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness based practices.
Julia’s clinical interests lie in treating eating disorders, substance use, trauma, anxiety, depression, difficult relationships, perfectionism, and managing chronic pain/ illness. She works with eating disorders from a HEAS (Health at Every Size) perspective, encouraging body neutrality. In addition, Julia feels passionate about group work and has created/ led groups focusing on body image and medical trauma.
Due to her leadership and dedication to her work The College of New Jersey presented her with the 2020 Erica Pluta Diamond Award. Julia’s approach is integrative and direct, tailoring treatment to meet the collaboratively-defined goals and needs. She incorporates warmth, genuineness, and humor into her work, aiming to create a space where diverse client systems feel comfortable. Julia is gender affirming, providing a safe space for members of the LGBTQ community.
